Fat Nancy finds out about National Coffee Day…

Kate Moss was pictured on the front page of The Guardian wearing denim. So what? I hear you say. It was all for a good cause – National Denim Day (created by Lee jeans). So bloody what? I hear you scream. Across the pond our American cousins are about to celebrate an equally unimportant day.  No, it’s not “National wear a holographic thong day”, it’s National coffee day. A recent survey conducted anticipating the coming week’s National Coffee Day uncovered some barely interesting facts. For one thing, it was discovered coffee makes a lot of coffee drinkers feel more like themselves. 7 Eleven coffee The survey was carried out by the Opinion Research Corporation International (ORC) on behalf of 7-Eleven, coffee company. The researchers talked to 1009 Americans about coffee in their lives. Call me a cynic but I’m getting the impression this unprofound research is purely for a company to get some column space. Artifact Coffee, a new offering from Baltimore

Located in Baltimore, Maryland are the people at ‘Artifact Coffee’.  A collaboration between restauranteur Spike Gjerde (of Woodberry Kitchen) and Coffee Guru, Allie Caran, Fat Nancy was aware their coffee programme would be serious – but the menu offerings at Artifact are also pleasing to the eye and tastebuds. Artifact are brewing with coffee courtesy of the now famous roasters, Intelligensia… And don’t take Fat Nancy’s word for it, Allie caran hosts coffee tastings (coffee cupping) every Friday. Pavilion: Café and Art Centre

Pavilion is a Dubai staple, you can’t live in the city without spending more than a bit of time here.  A café and art space combined with a good menu of light bites, decent work spaces (and internet connection) and shisha for that after dinner relaxation Middle East style if you head here for supper or a private view. The space has regularly changing art exhibitions curated by The Third Line along with screenings of art and cult films. They also run workshops like the interesting idea of Saturday night writing… If you have some writing to do… do it on Saturday night at Pavilion, if you don’t have any writing to do… well head to pavilion anyway and they can set you some writing exercises!
