Dubai Design District (d3) has announced its programming for its open-to-the-public event from the 2nd to the 4th April 2015 taking place at d3 district in Dubai. “Meet d3”, has been specifically commissioned to feature a compelling mix of local, regional and international designers, artists, musicians, concept retailers and unique dining experiences. Event timings: DAY 1 – April 2, 2015 | 6pm – 12am DAY 2 – April 3, 2015 | 2pm – 12am DAY 3 – April 4, 2015 | 2pm – 12am Whilst the overall program caters to all creative enthusiasts, a specially curated kids program include having British culinary wiz kids Bompas & Parr building a show-stopping Artisanal Chewing Gum Factory, where children are invited to learn the secrets of chewing manufacture at Dubai’s first micro-factory especially created for “Meet d3.” Other than learning about the secrets behind chewing gum, families can engage in learning how to screen print their own t-shirts with Hit & Run, or just get their hands dirty with many arts and crafts activities throughout the three days.
Design and Art
Across all three days As an insight into the world of design and technology, threeASFOUR from New York – known for dressing celebrities such as Bjork and Yoko Ono – take you through an immersive multimedia presentation of their latest collection. This sets the tone for a series of design and multimedia experiences created by local entrepreneur collaborations such as Cinema Akil and Gazette bringing together film, fashion and performance together in their programme. . Design is then interpreted in many different forms for people to experience and enjoy at “Meet d3” – from installations such as “Wink Space” by Masakazu Shirane + Saya Miyazaki to the mysterious walk through “Project Lines” by Lebanese architects Ghaith & Jad. Visitors will be lead through diverse iterations of design and emotions – from selfie moments to musically designed moments. Artist and designer Ebon Heath will be installing his unique typographic installation while international lighting brand Lasvit will, for the first time in the region, undertake glass-blowing workshops to give visitors a truly sensorial introduction to the process of transforming raw glass into design lighting. There will also be specially commissioned furniture by local product designer Khalid Shafar alongside works from Magis provided by Superstudio, founded in 2012 by Mohsin Jawaheri. Daily Programme Highlights: Day One– Features a talk from internationally recognized innovator and street artist Mr.Brainwash, known for pushing the boundaries of pop culture to the streets, will host an exclusive talk sharing his challenges and experiences in design. Day Two -Hosts activities for the whole family to enjoy; from watching a screening of Paris born and LA based film maker; Mr.Brainwash’s film ‘Exit through the gift shop’ to creative arts and crafts activities for the children with Cheeky monkey. Day Three –Introduces Li Edelkoort of the leading global trend agency Edelkoort bringing her insight and knowledge to the “Meet d3” event, shedding light on the mechanics of the design industry and sharing insights behind how design thinking and trend forecasting pave the industry’s direction in their product development.
Food and Beverage
Across all three days Building on the strong foundations of art, design and music, “Meet d3” will also showcase partnerships with the brightest talents from the food and beverage industry to deliver a world class offering of restaurants and cafes ranging from hip haute dining to passionate street food fare. The food and beverage component of the “Meet d3” has been carefully curated and will showcase pop-up offerings from some of Dubai’s leading independent restaurants and cafes, many of whom will be showcasing for the first time outside of their permanent venues. The line-up of award winning concepts provide a range of eating and drinking options; from cool contemporary European, Peruvian and Mexican street food, the freshest of sushi, Quebecois specialties and many more! Similarly to the events musical main stage, the food and beverage offerings also come with a few headline acts! Sure to thrill the city’s foodies and food professionals alike, the international food talents bring an element of the extraordinary to the event. British culinary wiz kids Bompas & Parr, known for staging astonishing food events – including architectural jelly banquets and flavourful multisensory fireworks – will be delivering a bespoke experience just for the “Meet d3” event. Award winning restauranteur Mourad ‘MOMO’ Mazouz, will collaborate with pop artist and close friend Hassan Hajjaj to deliver a whimsical restaurant decked out with his trademark style of recycled North African objects and pop-culture reference, creating an unforgettable experience to their own region.
Music and Entertainment
Across all three days A roster of local, regional and international musicians will set the audio backdrop to the “Meet d3” experience. Daily programming highlights: Day One –We’re very proud to announce that renowned singer John Newman, famed for his single ‘Love Me Again’, will be headlining our music line up to kick off “Meet d3” with flair. This will be fused with street performances and artists from around the region with some of the most creative and original sounds and beats, including Mashrou’ Leila. Day Two –Notable performances on Day Two of the event include The Narcicyst, Zahed Sultan,and award winning musician Talvin Singh who present a truly innovative fusion of Indian Classical music with drum and bass. Day Three– Highlights from the final day of “Meet d3” include Tania Saleh, Qusai Khader and the Queen of Arab hiphop, Malikah add a vibrant energy to “Meet d3”, Dub FX. See you there! FNND
